Special Granny Bulletin: December 2016

Welcome to the Granny Bulletin, your source for news, stories and information about exciting initiatives from the Stephen Lewis Foundation’s Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign.

In this Granny Bulletin:

  1. Flash Mobs Compilation Video
  2. Steven Page and the Grandmothers Campaign on Celebrity Chopped Canada

Dear Grandmothers and Grandothers,

There are few things in life that better soothe the soul, faster warm the heart, or more easily bring us together than dancing or sharing a lovingly prepared meal. This month, we’d like to offer a little extra inspiration on those themes as we take time out to celebrate the holidays.

So snuggle up around your computer, tablet or TV and enjoy!

Warmest wishes,
Graham, Janet, Healy, Sarah, Asmita and Carrie

1. Flash Mobs Compilation Video

The Grandmothers Campaign Flash Mobs compilation video is now available!  For those of you who participated, YOU DID IT! All told there were 81 grandmothers groups moving to the music in 35 Flash Mobs in shopping malls, schools, farmers markets, universities, grocery stores, retirement homes, libraries, and even outside – brrrrrrr.  Momentum is still building with dozens of TV, radio and print media pieces, including national coverage on CTV. Watch the Grandmothers Campaign Facebook page for more!

If you weren’t able to be in one of the Flash Mobs on World AIDS Day, we know you’ll feel proud and energized – you may even feel an overwhelming desire to start dancing in your living room!

Let’s keep the momentum going!  Help spread the word about the Flash Mobs and the efforts of grandmothers groups by sharing the video on Facebook, Twitter, to your friends, community groups, and everywhere else.  Let’s send it far and wide to raise awareness and bring new grandmothers and grandothers to our extraordinary movement.

2. Steven Page on Celebrity Chopped Canada

Founding member of the Barenaked Ladies and long-time Grandmothers Campaign supporter, Steven Page will be appearing on Celebrity Chopped Canada. And, better yet, he has chosen the Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign as the cause he will be competing for.  We know that all of you join us in saying thank you and good luck to Steven!

Tune in to watch Steven on the Food Network on Saturday, December 17 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

If you are unable to watch the show, the Food Network uploads the episodes to its website after they air.
(Note: the video may be available only in Canada)

Steven Page appears in the episode “Celebrity Challenge” on Saturday, December 17th at 9 p.m. ET/PT on the Food Network.

If you’ve never watched Chopped Canada before, you’re in for a treat: “Hosted by Brad Smith, in each episode, four chefs compete before an all-star rotating panel of three expert judges…. Armed with skill and ingenuity, the chef-competitors race against the clock to turn the mystery ingredients from their iconic baskets into an extraordinary three-course meal. Course-by-course, the judges decide which competitor will be ‘chopped’ from the competition until only the winner remains.”
