This is a wonderful feel-good story about a town\, its people and a family determined not only to build their life again but also to give back to the community and country which welcomed them. Author Jon Tattrie will be in discussion with Tareq Hadhad\, CEO of Peace by Chocolate\, and the eldest son of the Hadhad family. \nJon Tattrie is the author of six non-fiction books (including a Canadian best seller) and two novels. He works as a journalist for CBC News and has taught journalism at the University of King’s College and fiction writing at Dalhousie University. \nTareq Hadhad is the CEO and Founder of Peace by Chocolate. Tareq has spoken extensively – including appearances at Amnesty International’s Human Rights Conference\, TEDx events\, the World Bank\, and the OECD. In this illustrated lecture we will time travel from the mysterious Terra Cotta sculptures of 500 BC Nok through the realistic cast bronzes of 10th C Ife and 15th C Benin and then visit the imaginative\, abstracted wood masks and sculptures of West and Central Africa to finish with the resplendent 21st C wall hangings by El Anatsui. Along the way we will explore the meaning and function of these magnificent works of art.
