Her first novel\, The Theory of Flight\, won the Barry Ronge Fiction Prize in South Africa. Her novel\, The History of Man\, is the second book published in her trilogy. She was recently awarded a prestigious 2022 Windham-Campbell Prize which is administered by Yale University. \nGarvia Bailey is a Toronto-based\, Jamaica-born journalist\, producer\, broadcaster\, and former CBC host who is inspired and driven by the power of sharing our stories. \nDonations of $20 and more will receive a charitable tax receipt directly from the Stephen Lewis Foundation.

DESCRIPTION:Our annual Fabric\, Yarn and More Sale skipped two years (during which we continued to receive donations) but we are back! Our sale will be held Saturday\, March 12\, 2022\, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the usual location of St. John’s Presbyterian Church\, 504 – 2nd Street S.E.\, Medicine Hat\, Alberta. You will find an excellent selection of fabrics\, a huge assortment of yarns\, sewing machines\, a wide variety of notions and some craft supplies\, all priced very reasonably. All AHS COVID protocols will be followed: masking\, QR codes\, distancing and capacity limits. You may be required to wait outside during busy times. Admission is $1.00 and all sales are cash only.

DESCRIPTION:A Tapestry of Food\, Family and Forgiveness features Nigerian Canadian author Francesca Ekwuyasi and Canadian literary critic Donna Bailey Nurse sharing a conversation about Francesca’s debut novel “Butter Honey Pig Bread.” \nFrancesca is an author and a multidisciplinary artist from Lagos\, Nigeria. Her novel\, “Butter Honey Pig Bread” was long listed for the Giller Prize in 2020\, and was voted one of the CBCs 10 Best Canadian novels of 2021.  Our organization is very important to her as she was raised by her grandmother and she greatly respects all the work the SLF does for African grandmothers. \nDonna focuses on Black Canadian literature and Black women’s writing.  She is frequently heard on CBC’s radio show The Next Chapter with Shelagh Rogers. She is a literary journalist\, lecturer\, a critic for  Book Television\, and the author of two volumes of connected writing\, “What’s a Black Critic to Do?” and the editor of Revival: An Anthology of Black Canadian Writing.  Donna is currently working on a People’s History of Black Canada.
