Libby Davies – How To Make Change (Online)
24 January 2021 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm PST
FreeWe are excited to be hosting a special virtual event with Libby Davies, a Canadian politician and social activist, live on Sunday, January 24th, 2021, at 3:00 PM PST. After January 24th the recording will be available to view until February 14, 2021.
In 2021, our Grandmothers Group, the VanGogos, want to act in solidarity with our sister African Grandmothers as they deal with two simultaneous pandemics – HIV & AIDS and COVID-19. We know that the expertise, knowledge and depth of care required to accomplish this lies with the many community-based organizations in sub-Saharan Africa who are partners with the Stephen Lewis Foundation and who provide care, support and counselling for grandmothers caring for their orphaned grandchildren.
Libby Davies has worked steadfastly for social justice both inside parliament and out on the streets for more than four decades and her ongoing quest for change continues. In 2016, she was honoured with a Membership to the Order of Canada. Her recent book, Outside In: A Political Memoir, offers an insider’s perspective that never loses touch with the people she fights alongside. Davies looks back on her remarkable life and career with candid humour and heart-rending honesty. She addresses the challenges of her work on homelessness, sex workers’ rights and ending drug prohibition. You can read more about Libby’s book and purchase it here: https://btlbooks.com/book/outside-in
or at your favourite independent bookstore.
Libby will share her insights and experiences as she addresses questions such as – How do we bring about the changes we want? How do we influence the political agenda to make it work for us? Questions are welcome and can be submitted at the time of registration or in the live format on January 24th.
