About the Grandmothers Campaign Team

Grandmothers groups across the Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign are supported by an energetic and passionate team based in the Stephen Lewis Foundation’s office in Toronto, Canada. They provide support, nurture connection, and maintain momentum with and among the dedicated and galvanized members of the Campaign.

Together we:

  • Facilitate connections and opportunities to bring grandmothers and grandothers together to achieve the goals of the Campaign – raising awareness and funds and building solidarity with grandmothers in sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Develop resources and materials to support grandmothers groups’ inspired events and initiatives.
  • Participate in, support and often host local, regional and Campaign-wide conversations, meetings and events.
  • Provide day-to-day support and guidance to grandmothers groups, and lead strategic planning with grandmother leaders to strengthen and sustain the Campaign.

Idah Mukuka Nambeya, Senior Advisor to the Grandmothers Campaign

Idah’s expertise as an HIV and AIDS activist and former SLF field representative makes it possible for Campaign members to directly learn about the impact of the SLF’s community-based partner organizations and the grandmothers they support. Over the past decade, Idah has visited many of the SLF’s partners as well as grandmother groups in Canada, Australia and the United States. She has personally witnessed the evolution of grandmothers movements in communities in North America, Australia and sub-Saharan Africa. Through her role as Senior Advisor to the Grandmothers Campaign, Idah strengthens the solidarity between Campaign members and African grandmothers in the communities where SLF partners work. Idah lives in Lusaka, Zambia.
