Grandmothers Bridge Crossing
The Ottawa One World Grannies and the Aylmer (Quebec) GoGos are hosting the 2nd Grandmothers Bridge Crossing on National Grandparents Day, Sun. Sept. 7th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Adawe Pedestrian Bridge in Strathcona Park in Ottawa.
It’s an awareness raising and eduction event with special activities and guest speakers. Visitors will be invited to write messages of solidarity to African grandmothers and pin them on a temporary clothesline; Grandmother volunteers will lead purposeful walks across the Bridge; an information table will have handout material about the work of the SLF and the Grandmothers Campaign; African music will entertain, and guests are invited to bring a picnic to the park. An ice cream truck has been invited. Guests include, Mme. Claudette Commanda, Chancellor of the University of Ottawa, a well-known indigenous elder and inspiring speaker, who will open the event. Local city Councillors have all been also been invited to speak.
