Movie night – Friendship Bench and Last Ranger

Toronto Grandmothers Groups together with the South African Film Festival are hosting a movie night on Monday November 3rd, 2025 at Innis Town Hall, University of Toronto.

The Friendship Bench, a movie about a mental health treatment program in Zimbabwe that uses grandmothers in the community to assist in the delivery of this treatment. When the community loses hope, grandmothers take action. The Last Ranger, a short film about rhino poaching and conservation in Amakhala Game reserve. This film was nominated for Best Live Action – Short Film at 2024 Academy awards.

Together these movies celebrate the strength of the communities and the courage of individuals who rise to protect others echoing the mission of Education without Borders and the Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign of the Stephen Lewis Foundation.
