Contemporary African Voices: The Son of the House – Relationships, Gender and Changing Traditions
5 May 2021 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm EDT
Free
Join the launch of Contemporary African Voices, a webinar series organized by members of the Grandmothers Campaign to spotlight acclaimed sub-Saharan writers. We come to know a country by reading its writers. Travelling virtually to Nigeria via Zoom, we welcome Dr. Cheluchi Onyemelukwe-Onuobia, for the release in Canada of her debut novel, The Son of the House. She is a health lawyer, academic and writer who works in Lagos in the areas of health, gender and violence against women and children. Pulsing with vitality and intense human drama, The Son of the House is set against four decades of life in vibrant Nigeria, celebrating the resilience of women as they navigate and transform what still remains a man’s world.
